Yvonne Nelson plans dumsor vigil against disrespectful Akufo-Addo

Renowned Ghanaian actress Yvonne Nelson has appealed to policy think tank IMANI Africa to collaborate for a demo against the Akufo-Addo/ Bawumia led administration. She said the administration has taken Ghanaians for granted regarding the intermittent power outages known as “dumsor.”

Her comment comes at the back of the sustained power outages that have been rocking the country for months.

In 2015, Ghana was bedeviled with severe intermittent power cuts, which caused frustration among the citizenry and businesses. Actress and producer Yvonne Nelson organized a massive demonstration against the John Mahama-led administration.

IMANI Ghana, a policy think tank, played a pivotal role in the success of the demonstration. The 2015 vigil brought Ghanaians from all walks of life including celebrities and highlighted the impact of power crisis on the life of the ordinary Ghanaian.

Meanwhile, residents of the Ashanti region on April 17, 2024, organized a dumsor vigil in Kumasi. Hundreds of protesters thronged Kumasi and marched against power supply crisis in the country. They expressed their disaffection for the erratic power supply and the incessant unannounced blackouts.

Energy experts and citizens have criticized the government for managing the power crisis poorly.

Yvonne Nelson in a post on X on Monday disclosed that she is waiting patiently for IMANI to give her the go ahead for the vigil like they did in 2015.

“Imani Ghana, can we organize another vigil? I’ve been waiting for you to reach out like you did years back. ( your team made our demo a success ) I’m reaching out myself. The NPP and its leadership @NAkufoAddo have taken Ghanaians for granted. DUMSORMUSTSTOP,” she said.
