Some angry youths have vandalized the Yamfo police station in the Tano North municipality of Ahafo Region.
The disturbing incident has occurred on Friday, April 4, days after the death of a young nurse was allegedly beaten to death by police personnel on patrol duties. The victim, whose name has not been disclosed, was reportedly accused of smoking “wee”.
According to eyewitnesses, the police officers arrested two young men, including the deceased nurse, at a ‘ghetto’ and demanded that each of them pay GHS 1,000 which they paid.
Despite the payment, the nurse, who works at the Yamfo Health Centre, was allegedly assaulted, leading to his untimely death.
The sad news angered a section of the youth in the Yamfo township, and as a result, they besieged the police station, trapping the personnel inside before vandalizing properties.
According to sources, the timely intervention of the military was what saved the trapped officers from being physically harmed.
