Dr. William Okyere Frimpong, Lead Consultant for Nurses at Rover Med Consult, has encouraged young members of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) to embrace opportunities and actively participate in shaping Ghana’s future.

At an event celebrating International Youth Day, Dr. Okyere Frimpong praised the assembly of young nurses and midwives, urging them to “look beyond the ward and into the vast possibilities of their future.”

He pointed out that youth aged 15-24 represent about 16% of the global population, while in Ghana, nearly 38% are classified as youth. “This is not merely a demographic statistic,” he stated, “but a demographic advantage. However, unused potential is lost potential—the clock is ticking, and the world will not wait for us to be ready.”

Referencing American musician John Legend, Dr. Okyere Frimpong stressed the need for immediate action. “Our generation cannot afford to wait for the future to arrive—yesterday was already too late. We must respond to this call with an urgent desire to rise and achieve more.”

He also drew on biblical wisdom from Proverbs 20:29, noting that the strength of youth is their glory, while the wisdom of age is found in gray hair. “Youth is not just about having time ahead,” he explained. “It’s about using that time wisely now, so that when the gray hair comes, you have something remarkable to show.”

This year’s International Youth Day theme is “Empowering Youth for a Sustainable Future.” Dr. Okyere Frimpong emphasized that empowerment goes beyond simply transferring authority; it involves “igniting a sense of purpose—teaching young people to harness their potential with skill, wisdom, and passion. True empowerment is about transitioning from potential to purpose.”

He concluded by challenging young nurses and midwives to view themselves not just as caregivers within hospitals, but as change agents capable of influencing national development.
