Your response to Volta flood victims ethnocentric and completely reckless – Japhet slams Akufo-Addo

Japhet Festus Gbede, a communication team member of the opposition National Democratic Congress’s Akatsi South branch, has condemned President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for a remark he made while visiting flood victims in the Volta Region.

Mr. Gbede called the president’s remarks “insensitive and irresponsible” in a statement posted on his official Facebook page.

It is disappointing that President Nana Addo, our country’s president, has refused to disassociate himself from inane, insensitive, reckless, ethnocentric, and venomous mockery sentiments even in the aftermath of the VRA’s deliberate attack on defenseless Voltarians using the Kpong and Akosombo Dams, but instead chose tribal loyalty and political correctness to mock our Volta flood victims, he stated.

The young NDC communicator, in his statement demanding that the president withdraw and apologize to the people of the Volta Region, added that “this unacceptable behavior from the President echoes the reprehensible remarks made by the sorry Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP and further exposes the fact that the dam spillage was politically orchestrated to inflict mental anguish upon those residing in the Volta region.”

He added that it is rather expected that when people are being displaced in times such as this, those call leaders should be guided to refrain from further comments that are so sensitive that would aggravate the pains of the victims.

This awkward claim by Mr. President was completely elusive and meaningless and had no relationship with the devastating havoc VRA has caused to the people of my region, and the president must expediently withdraw his insults and honorably apologize to us, Gbede concluded.
