Former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Accra Hearts of Oak, Harry Zakour has heavily criticized the current board of the club for their inability to execute their administrative duties.
According to him, they lack the foresight to keenly assess the welfare of the players and their mental toughness to grind results for the club.
Speaking in an interview with Muftawu Nabila on Joy Sports, the astute football administrator said to be on top of your competitors, Hearts of Oak should not be run by old men.
“You do not need old men to run the club. Would they have time to come and run Accra Hearts of Oak? Those Board there, are they going to the training ground or camp to look after the boys?”
Zakour added that footballers are just like women who need attention to be in the right state of mind and deliver on the job.
“The Boys need attention. Footballers are like women and if you do not give them attention, how do you get results from them?, he quizzed.
Hearts of Oak in recent times has failed to bring back the glory days when they dominated Ghana and Africa in the early 2000s of which Harry Zakour played an integral role.
Hearts was a force to reckon with when they clinched the League, CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup in 2000 and 2001 respectively.
Zakour is best known for his role as Chief Executive Officer of Accra Hearts of Oak, one of Ghana’s most successful football clubs.
During his tenure, the club achieved one of the most successful seasons in African club football history. In the year 2000/2001, Hearts of Oak won the Ghana Premier League, the Ghana FA Cup, the CAF Champions League, and the CAF Super Cup.
However, same can not be said about the Rainbow club as their performance in Africa has been abysmal, exiting in the second round of the CAF Confederations Cup despite winning 1-0 at home and a 3-0 away defeat to Malian side AS Bamako in their last campaign.
Hearts of Oak last won a major trophy during the 2022/23 season under former trainer Samuel Badu when they defeated Bechem United 2-1 in the final of the FA Cup to book their place in Africa.
The Phobians will be hoping to turn things around under new gaffer Mashud Didi Dramani in their quest to win a trophy.
