You can’t blame Bawumia for NPP’s 2024 defeat – Adwoa Safo

Key members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) are starting to share their views as the party awaits the findings of the Prof. Ocquaye report.

The report will investigate the causes of the party’s defeat in the 2024 elections and suggest ways to rebuild for future success.

Among those speaking out is Sarah Adwoa Safo, the former Member of Parliament for Dome Kwabenya, who has defended Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the party’s presidential candidate for 2024, against blame for the defeat.

In an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosiisen radio show, Adwoa Safo expressed confidence in Dr. Bawumia, stating that he was the right choice for the party both previously and moving forward.

She pointed to the lack of attention to infrastructure, especially in the Ashanti Region, as a key reason for the NPP’s poor performance in the region. This neglect allowed the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) to gain ground, securing four parliamentary seats there.

Despite the party’s setback, Adwoa Safo maintained that Dr. Bawumia should not be held accountable. She emphasized that addressing the concerns of the party’s supporters and improving infrastructure in crucial areas would be key to regaining voter trust in upcoming elections.
