Yaw Adutwum declares intent to contest NPP flagbearer race

Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, the former Minister of Education and MP for Bosomtwe, has officially announced his intention to contest the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer position ahead of the 2028 general elections.

He announced on June 18 via social media, one day after the NPP confirmed January 31, 2026, as the date for its presidential primaries.

“With humility, conviction, and a resolute heart, I, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, declare my intent to run for the Flagbearership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), should nominations be officially opened by the party,” he stated.

The party has not yet opened nominations for the flagbearer contest.

Profile: Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum

Born on April 9, 1964, in Jachie in Ghana’s Ashanti Region, Dr. Adutwum is a seasoned educationist and policy expert. He holds a PhD in Educational Policy, Planning, and Administration from the University of Southern California, as well as a Master’s degree in Education Management from the University of La Verne, California.

He also earned a Bachelor’s degree in Land Economy and Business Administration (Real Estate) from KNUST, Ghana, and holds a postgraduate diploma in Teaching from Chapman University, California.

Dr. Adutwum was appointed Deputy Minister for Education in 2017 and later served as Minister. He is currently the MP for Bosomtwe and serves on advisory boards, including the Capacity Building Center at UCLA and the High-Level Advisory Group for Mission 4.7.

Married with four children, he is a Christian and well-respected for his contributions to Ghana’s education sector.
