Women have an important role in Ghana’s democracy – Nketia Hagar

The Deputy Communication Officer of the opposition National Democratic Congress for Dormaa Central Constituency, Madam Nketia Hagar has indicated that women in the politics of Ghana have contributed immensely to the growth of democracy of the Country.

Hagar Nketia stressed that men have over the years dominated political activities in the country at the expense of women. She, however, opined that the inclusion of women in some sensitive political roles in recent times and their output and dedication will inspire more women to be involved in politics.

According to Miss Nketia Hagar, women’s inclusion in politics is non-negotiable as they play critical roles in championing a nation’s development.

Madam Hagar pointed to the retention of Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang as the NDC’s Vice Presidential Candidate as a trailblazer to lead other women towards aspiring for the country’s topmost job. She added that it is a clear message that women have more to offer than domestic duties as many people still perceive.

The Deputy Dormaa Central Communication Officer expressed hope in the NDC running mate Prof. Jane Naana  Opoku-Agyemang’s ability to greatly influence the direction of the next NDC administration to enhance women’s welfare and facilitate development.

Miss Nketia encouraged women in politics and those willing to actively work or pursue it as a career to stay focused and resolute towards achieving their dreams.

Also, Miss Nketia expressed concern about how every successful woman in politics is easily tagged with sex for favours. She said the road which men take to reach the top is the same road women use so the time has come for people to eschew such misogynistic thoughts and embrace women’s leadership.
