Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga has clarified that Parliament will sit on both Mondays and Saturdays starting Monday, July 7, 2025, to expedite legislative work before the House adjourns sine die.
Presenting the Business Statement for the seventh week ending Saturday, July 12, Ayariga explained that the move is necessary to allow several Legislative Instruments (LIs) to mature in time.
He revealed that 55 Ministers and the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr. Johnson Pandit Asiama, are scheduled to appear before Parliament during the week to answer questions.
In addition to these appearances, Ayariga noted that Bills may be introduced for First Reading, and urgent ones may be processed through all legislative stages in a single day, as permitted by Standing Order 160.
He added that committee reports, motions, and new papers may be presented and debated throughout the week.
“In accordance with Standing Order 216(2) and subject to Standing Order 67, the Committee submits to the House the order in which business shall be taken,” Ayariga stated.
Responding to the Business Statement, Minority Leader Osahen Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin urged Ayariga to schedule Electoral Commission Chairperson Jean Mensa to brief Parliament on the upcoming rerun of parliamentary elections in 19 polling stations within Ablekuma North.
