Why Ja Rule is coming to Ghana with Pencils of Promise

American rapper Ja Rule, known in private as Jeffrey Bruce Atkins Sr, is set to arrive in Ghana this week. The rapper took to social media to share the news of his visit which is in collaboration with Pencils of Promise. Ja Rule is not the first high-profile American rapper to visit the country but each always has a reason to visit the culturally-riched West African nation.

So why is Ja Rule coming to Ghana?

Ja Rule is coming to Ghana because of a charity project he is undertaking with a non-governmental organization called Pencils of Promise. The rapper together with the NGO will construct a school block at Nuaso in the Manya Krobo Municipality of Eastern Region. Taking to his Instagram handle to announce the news, the “Always On Time” rapper said, “Building towards the future… Ghana see you tomorrow.”

What about Pencils of Promise?

Pencils of Promise is an American-based education-centred charity organization. The NGO builds schools to help community have access to quality education. It has projects in three countries; Ghana, Guatemala and Laos. Among these three countries, Pencils of Promise have built over 600 classroom blocks from a total of 1,243 communities scouted.

In Ghana, Pencils of Promise is primarily based in the Eastern, Volta and Oti regions. Some of the school projects it has completed in Ghana are the Bleamezado Preschool and Primary School, Anyarko RC Primary School and Delukope Preschool and Primary School in the Volta Region. In Eastern Region, Abomayaw DA Primary School, Bueyonye MA Primary School and Akuse Presby Primary School have all benefited from their charitable works.
