Bernard Ahiafor, First Deputy Speaker

The First Deputy Speaker of Parliament and Member of Parliament for Akatsi South, Bernard Ahiafor, has strongly refuted claims that the constituency is being sidelined in the distribution of national development resources, describing such assertions as misleading and inconsistent with facts on the ground.

According to him, Akatsi South is benefiting from a wide range of government-backed interventions spanning education, health, roads, water, and rural electrification, many of which are ongoing across several communities.

Mr. Ahiafor made the remarks while addressing residents during a constituency tour that included sod-cutting ceremonies and inspections of ongoing and newly approved projects. He directly questioned critics of his development record, asking what basis they have for claiming that the area is not receiving its fair share of the “national cake.”

He pointed to multiple classroom block projects aimed at eliminating schools under trees, the construction of CHPS compounds with nurses’ quarters, rehabilitation of selected health facilities, and the drilling and mechanization of boreholes as examples of active interventions.

The MP further disclosed that arrangements have been made for contractors to return to abandoned project sites to resume work, particularly on road and rural electrification projects that were previously stalled. He said these efforts are part of a broader push to ensure continuity and completion of public infrastructure.

Mr. Ahiafor noted that project delivery in the constituency has been strengthened through close coordination with the Municipal Assembly and its technical departments, helping to speed up execution and monitoring.

He urged residents to assess development based on visible projects and measurable impact rather than commentary and political rhetoric, and assured constituents that additional projects are being pursued to expand infrastructure coverage across Akatsi South.
