Dr Kofi Lindsay has indicated that there is no need for government to present a fresh budget to parliament over the recent free-fall of the cedi on the Forex market.

Dr Lindsay’s position is in reaction to a demand by the Minority in Parliament who said the government ought to present a new budget on the floor that would address the current vulnerability of the economy.

At a presser Wednesday, the Minority argued that the existing budget has failed to rectify the current state of Ghana’s economy, which has resulted in investor capital flight and abysmal performance of the cedi against the international trading currencies.

Sharing a contrary view, Dr Lindsay, an Economist, said a supplementary budget to be presented later in the year can take care of the existing shortfalls.

“The projections were there…these are plans for revenues and expenditures that have been made. And if the expenditures, for instance, are out of line, there is the possibility for the government to come out with a supplementary budget.

“I do not think a fresh budget is necessary,” Dr Kofi Lindsay said.
