We can’t meet all NDC conditions – Peace Council

The National Peace Council has expressed its disempowerment over the conditions the National Democratic Congress (NDC) wants them to fulfill before signing the Peace Pact ahead of the 2024 general elections.

The NDC’s National Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, in an interview with JoyNews, expressed dissatisfaction with the impact that previous peace pacts have had on Ghanaians. He disclosed that the party is not willing to sign the document if their concerns are not addressed.

As part of their conditions, Mr. Nketiah called for the full implementation of the Ayawaso Commission’s recommendations.

In response to the party’s concerns, the Chairman of the National Peace Council, Dr. Ernest Adu-Gyamfi, stated that some of the NDC’s demands were beyond their capacity.

“The NDC has not said categorically that they won’t sign. They have given out some grievances and we will meet with them and we will talk about those things and then we will resolve them.

“The ones that are within our capacity, we will do them. Some of them are not within our control and there is nothing that the Peace Council itself can handle. We hope that they will sign,” he explained.

He further mentioned that, “I don’t think that it is something that we should split our heads over. Our doors are always open. We work with the parties, we talk with them. And so we listen to them, we find a way to talk and find solutions to some of these grievances”.
