Volta Region: GES interdicts three members of staff of Somé SHS over theft

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has interdicted three individuals who have been busted stealing food items from the stock of Somé Senior High School in Agbozume, Ketu South.

The interdicted officers are: Richard Ametorxe; Bursar, Yorm Dzikumu; Matron, and Alex Obuadi who is the school’s storekeeper.

“Management of Ghana Education Service (GES) has interdicted Richard Ametorxe (Bursar), Yorm Dzikumu (Matron), and Alex Obuadi (Storekeeper), all of Somè Senior High School with immediate effect, pending further investigation into an alleged stealing of free SHS food items,” the Education Ministry said.

The ministry continued that the three busted staffs were “handover to the Headmaster of the school, and that an investigative committee is formed to look into the matter.” The committee, per the ministry, is tasked to produce its findings within 14 days.

Background

In the evening of Friday, May 24, Yorm Dzikumu and Richard Ametorxe who were matron and bursar respectively, were searched by some individuals including the Assemblymember of the area, when they were exiting the school’s premises. The search led to the discovery of the food items which include; tomatoes, mackerel, cleaning agents, and insecticide spray.

They were however, handed to the Police who subsequently detained them.

On Sunday, May 26, the other two suspects were also arrested.

The four suspects meanwhile appeared in court today, Monday, May 27, to hear the charges leveled against them.
