Ghanaian actor Van Vicker has criticized Ghanaians abroad who are unhappy about the Ghana Cedi’s recent appreciation, describing their stance as “narcissistic.”

In a Facebook post on May 28, Vicker praised President Mahama and the NDC government for the Cedi’s rebound, noting that the local currency’s value has significantly improved, from about GH¢17 to $1 to the current GH¢10.29 to $1.

“Regrettably, some Ghanaians living abroad are not enthused because the dollar has dropped against the Cedi. How narcissistic can one be?” he wrote. “This is not a political statement. It is an acknowledgment of a good job done so far.”

Vicker attributed the Cedi’s appreciation to multiple factors including global economic shifts, reduced government spending, legal actions against the Bank of Ghana Governor, and increased dollar circulation. Despite the complexities, he maintained that the Mahama administration deserves credit.

“I think the current Cedi orbit is remarkable for Ghana as a country, and I am optimistic it’s sustainable,” he said, urging Ghanaians to “call a spade a spade” and acknowledge the government’s efforts.
