KlenamFmOnline.com can confirm that market women at the Bator Market are planning to stage a demonstration to register their displeasure on what they claim is the insensitivity of the District Chief Executive of the North Tongu District to their pleas.

Madam Abla Vincentia Agbemafle, the Market Women Organizer of the Bator Market, told Klenam FM’s reporter, Dadavi Emekor, that the [ads1]District Assembly constructed a fence around the market. According to her, the fence has become a death trap as all gutters around it get stacked and over float when it rains. This causes serious flooding in the market.

In addition, the market has become an abode to street children and drug wee smokers rendering the market insecure. Activities of these drug users, marijuana especially, causes fire outbreaks since they mostly throw the unquenched pieces onto the sheds made of dried palm leaves.

When the District Chief Executive (DCE), Honourable Richard Arku Collins, was contacted, he said he was surprised at the threats of the market women since he met them earlier and assured them of action to be taken soon. He claimed to have met the market women just Tuesday.

Nevertheless, he again reiterated that the challenges were known to him and his outfit and has already initiated steps to arrest the situation. On the flood issues, he said the district assembly is working around the clock to put in place a better drainage system. He also mentioned that street lights will soon be fixed at vantage points in the market to ward off those using the market for wrong purposes.

He concluded by assuring the whole district that the government is poised to solve their problems at the due time.
