The University of Ghana has officially lifted its ban on social gatherings following a recent decline in COVID-19 cases on campus.

A statement from the Office of Student Affairs on Monday, July 14, 2025, announced that the restriction, imposed after a resurgence of cases, has been revoked with immediate effect.
The decision, made in consultation with University Health Services and Management, marks a return to full student life at the Legon campus.
“This means GRASAG, SRC, JCRs, religious groups, and departmental associations can now resume their week celebrations and other social activities,” the notice stated.
However, authorities emphasized that all COVID-19 protocols must still be strictly observed. The University reminded event organizers and attendees to prioritize health and safety in all gatherings.
The move comes after the Ghana Health Service recorded 141 COVID-19 cases within the university community, prompting earlier restrictions. With infections under control, UG becomes one of the first major institutions to reinstate normal campus activities this semester.
