UG tops Ghana, West Africa in QS World Rankings 2026

The University of Ghana (UG), Legon, has once again emerged as the best-ranked university in Ghana and West Africa, according to the QS World University Rankings 2026.

The new ranking affirms UG’s leadership in higher education across the sub-region and highlights its growing global recognition.

The university retained its top spot for the second consecutive year, driven by strong performance in key indicators such as employment outcomes, research output, and sustainability.

UG scored an impressive 96.8 in Employment Outcomes, reflecting the high global employability of its graduates.

Additionally, the university achieved 80.8 in the International Research Network category, showcasing its expanding international partnerships and research impact.

The rankings also recognized UG’s commitment to sustainability and ethical governance, core pillars of its 2024–2029 Strategic Plan, which focuses on transforming the student experience and enhancing global competitiveness.

UG’s success in the QS 2026 rankings follows a similar performance in the Times Higher Education (THE) Interdisciplinary Science Rankings 2025, where it placed first in Ghana and second in West Africa.

The university’s management attributed these achievements to collective efforts from faculty, staff, students, and stakeholders, emphasizing their dedication to academic excellence and impactful research.
