The University of Cape Coast (UCC) has commissioned four ultramodern projects to expand access, promote academic work and research, and strengthen its international outlook.
The facilities include the Office of Institutional Affiliations (OIA) and the School of Educational Development and Outreach (SEDO) building, an EdHotel ancillary facility, a five-storey Academic Staff Office complex, and a Science Annex building.
The four-storey OIA/SEDO complex at Apewosika features a 250-seater auditorium, ICT rooms, seminar rooms, a reprography centre, and other facilities to promote teacher education, curriculum innovation, and policy engagement.
The EdHotel extension houses modern kitchens, a restaurant, bar, gym, offices, a swimming pool, and auxiliary spaces, positioning the facility for 3-Star certification and international academic exchanges.
The Academic Staff Office complex provides 120 offices, two conference rooms, and ancillary facilities, designed to enhance faculty welfare, collaboration, and research capacity.
The Science Annex accommodates nine laboratories, 40 offices, 15 research rooms, and large conference and computer rooms. The GETFund-sponsored project began in 2005, stalled in 2016, but was completed in 2021 with UCC’s internally generated funds.
Vice Chancellor Professor Johnson Nyarko Boampong said the projects reflected UCC’s commitment to innovation, collaboration, and global competitiveness, calling on staff to maximise the facilities’ potential to address challenges such as climate change, public health, and food security.
Other projects completed under Prof. Boampong’s tenure include the Adow Obeng Central Administration Block, the School of Graduate Studies building, and the EdHotel Main facility.
