The Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has emphasized that Ghana’s Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) system is being reformed to empower youth to become job creators rather than job seekers.

Speaking at the World Youth Skills Day celebration, Mr. Iddrisu announced a major overhaul of the national education curriculum, with plans to integrate artificial intelligence, coding, and robotics starting from the kindergarten level. This move, he explained, is part of a broader strategy to equip young Ghanaians with the digital skills needed to compete in the global economy.

“We are investing in future-ready skills. By embedding AI and robotics into early education, we are preparing a generation that will lead in innovation, not chase jobs,” he stated.

The Minister also revealed plans to establish a dedicated TVET Fund, proposing that 2.5% of the national budget be allocated annually to support technical and vocational education. He noted that part of this fund would support the National Apprenticeship Program.

“This is a forward-looking investment. Channeling oil revenue into technical education is key to building a resilient and skilled workforce,” he said.

Deputy Chief of Staff, Nana Oye Bampoe Addo, also addressed the gathering, stressing that the government under the NDC is committed to building a skilled, inclusive, and innovative workforce.

“Young people are now building infrastructure and assembling smartphones through TVET. We will integrate advanced technologies like data science into training, ensuring no one is left behind,” she said.

The event, held in collaboration with development partners such as the European Union and GIZ, highlighted Ghana’s growing commitment to youth development and skills advancement.
