Despite announcement from the Chamber of Petroleum Consumers (COPEC) over the drop in the price of diesel and Liquidfied Petroleum Gas (LPG) at the pumps effective Wednesday, January 17, 2024, Commercial Transport Operators in the country are implementing a nationwide 30% increase on transportation fares.

COPEC anticipates a decline for both diesel and LPG due to a global drop in finished product prices.

This positive trend comes despite a slight depreciation of the Ghanaian cedi in recent weeks.

Interestingly, petrol prices are expected to remain relatively stable, possibly with a minor upward adjustment of around 1%.

Meanwhile, the increase in transport fares which will take effect from Monday, January 22, has come as a shock to Ghanaians due to the drop at the pumps.

Many were those who believed that the drop in the price of diesel and Liquidfied Petroleum Gas (LPG) will rather stabilize the transport fares.

The new development has compelled Ghanaians to expressed their displeasure over what they described as a scam (419) by the government adding that the hardship in the country is becoming unbearable and the government is not doing anything to address the hardship Ghanaians are going through.
