The second wake of the novel coronavirus is sending many to their early grave but sadly, the current situation is under-reported and the fear and urgency that came with the virus when it hit the shores of Ghana in March 2020 have drastically vanished.
Mr. Leonard Gikunu, the Head of Corporate Finance at Fidelity Bank has joined the list of prominent Ghanaians who lost their lives to the COVID-19 this month alone.
In a Facebook post, Lawyer Elsie Appau-Klu, the Managing Partner of Acreaty Ghana wrote:
“Your passing unto eternity came to me as a great shock.
You were so committed to discussions that established the P2P Fund aimed as a catalyst to MSMEs in the Water and Sanitation sector of Ghana which is funded by the Netherlands Government in partnership with Fidelity Bank Ghana. We shared jokes and had great conversations about the needed revolution and reforms in our development financing processes as a country.
You definitely played your part.
Farewell Leo.
Until we meet again”
MP for South Dayi constituency also reacted to the news as saying:
“I lost a very dear friend this morning. I’m so grief stricken. Leonard Gikunoo: 3As from Mawuli. 1st Class from UGBS. MBA with Distinction from Reading. MSc with Distinction from Coventry plus hordes of top class professional certs. One of the greatest financial minds is gone”
In MyJoyOnline.com reports Mr. Gikunu’s death:
“This is according to a Facebook post made by one, Gbeetsatsu Abbey over the weekend.
Giving more details about the financial expert, the post said Mr Gikunu designed the ESLA Bond financing programme from scratch and also built the same petroleum finance loan book used by Fidelity Bank.
A Chevening Scholar with a first-class BSc in Administration from the University of Ghana, Mr Gikunu has been described as a “brilliant chap”.
Mr Abbey, who described the chartered accountant as a great friend used the announcement of his death as an opportunity to caution people about Covid-19 and the need to adhere to all the safety protocols outlined by the Ghana Health Service (GHS) through the government of Ghana.
“This Covid-19 is very real and taking lives so let’s all be mindful and observe the the protocols. Not to be afraid but to acquire the knowledge needed to live with it. It’s a Covid-19 world we live in right now so let’s beware. I am really sad,” he wrote.”
