Medeama SC U-20 Head CoachTonny Lokko has suggested to the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to include Ex-Ghanaian international Asamoah Gyan to the Technical Team of the Black Stars.
In recent times, Ghana has struggled to find a perfect replacement for Asamoah Gyan after he officially announced his retirement from active football on June 23, 2023.
The introduction of Majeed Warris, Iñaki Williams, Caleb Ekuban, and Afena Gyan, who was tipped as the new Gyan, has all played their part but has not been convincing enough as the missing link upfront.
The all-time leading scorer for Ghana (51 goals) and Africa’s top World Cup scorer (6 goals), having played at the 2006, 2010, and 2014 World Cups, respectively, is a legendary ambassador, mentor, and motivational figure.
With his experience and goal-scoring prowess, Coach Lokko believes his inclusion in the team will play a huge role in the striking department.
“Please, I (Coach Tony Lokko) am humbly suggesting that we add Asamoah Gyan to the Black Stars technical team so that he can assist and work with the strikers. Asamoah Gyan has seen it all, and I believe he will add some value to the technical team,” he posted on his Facebook page.
The Black Stars have been paired against England, Panama, and Croatia in Group I.
Ghana will open their World Cup campaign against Panama on June 17, before playing England on June 23 and the final group game against Croatia on June 17, 2026.
