Three arrested over Alabar market robbery incident

The Ashanti Regional Police has apprehended three persons in connection with a robbery incident at Alabar in Kumasi on Friday afternoon.

The suspects whose actions led to the death of Anwar Hussain, a spare parts dealer have been identified as Hamza Nuhu, 22; Salifu Iddrisu, 18 and Ali Razak, 18.

Three others were injured during the attack and were rushed to the Manhyia Government Hospital for treatment, sources say.

In a gunfire exchange, the suspect Hamza Nuhu was shot in the thigh. He is currently receiving treatment at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital under police watch.

Amateur footage secured by residents at the incident shows the said assailants hopping onto motorbikes after firing shots into the air to scatter dwellers as they carried out the robbery.

Police say, ‘they are on a rootle for four other suspects who are said to be part of the gang that raved the market and took part in the robbery.

“They are on detention to assist in police investigations, whiles a manhunt has been launched for the arrest of the remaining robbers,” the Regional Police Command disclosed.”

The murder of Anwar Hussain adds to a sequel of raids in the past few weeks in the Ashanti Region.
A 62-year-old businessman was also shot dead by unknown attackers at Asuadee close to Mankranso on Wednesday.

Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq was killed while performing ablution for the sundown’s prayers at his fuel station.
