Defence Minister, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, has disclosed that thousands of rounds of military ammunition remain unaccounted for following an irregular transfer in 2024 from the Ghana Armed Forces to the National Security Secretariat.

Speaking at the Government Accountability Series in Accra, Dr. Boamah said the transfer occurred under questionable circumstances and the ammunition has since gone missing.

“We have kept our nation safe and stable notwithstanding the irregular transfer of thousands of rounds of military ammunition in 2024 from the Ghana Armed Forces to the National Security outfit, ammunition which has since not been accounted for,” he stated.

He declined to provide specific details about the type or quantity of the ammunition involved, or whether any investigation has been launched into the issue.

The revelation comes as the government ramps up efforts to retool the military, despite challenges such as obsolete equipment and manpower shortages across the Army, Navy, and Air Force.

Despite these setbacks, the Defence Minister maintained that Ghana remains peaceful and stable, crediting the resilience of the Ghana Armed Forces.
