The Member of Parliament for Hohoe, Thomas Worlanyo Tsekpo, has revealed that he lost a sponsorship package worth $1.2 million during the 2024 general election campaign due to poll projections he strongly disagreed with.
In a statement shared on his official Facebook page, Mr. Tsekpo disclosed that the polls significantly influenced sponsor confidence in his electoral chances, leading to the withdrawal of the financial support. He indicated that the situation posed a major challenge to his campaign at the time.
Despite the setback, the Hohoe legislator stated that he carefully studied the polling data and subsequently adjusted his campaign strategy, a decision he says contributed to his eventual electoral victory.
Mr. Tsekpo further suggested that he holds personal reservations about the polls and their impact on the 2024 elections in Hohoe. However, he did not provide additional details regarding the sponsors involved or the specific polling data that influenced the decision.
His revelation has since generated discussions among political observers, particularly regarding the role of political polling in shaping campaign funding, voter perception, and electoral strategy in Ghana.
The Hohoe MP’s statement adds to ongoing debates about the growing influence of data and opinion surveys in the country’s democratic process.
