The former New Patriotic Party (NPP) member of parliament for Ayawaso Central, Henry Quartey, has tasked media personnel to ensure fair and balanced reporting when carrying out their duties.
The former Greater Accra Regional Minister underscored the dangers associated with false information, stressing that the media creates a hub and incites violence when they fail to abide by the ethics of journalism.
According to him, Ghana continues to be the beacon of Africa; hence, the media, as the fourth arm of government, should produce fairness in discharging their duties.
Addressing the media at the Nima St. Kitzito School in the Ayawaso East Constituency, Hon. Kotey reiterated that the media has a role to play in ensuring a safe environment.
“Let us all task the media to give us fair and balanced reportage in the course of carrying out your duty on the election. Because false information can incite all manner of violence in our community. Ghana continues to be the beacon of Africa. So let’s continue to come together and collectively work towards the development of our nation,” he stated.
The Ayawaso East by-election has attracted political interest, with five candidates vying for the seat.
The NPP is represented by Baba Ali Yussif in third place, while the NDC’s Baba Jamal comes first and Ibrahim Iddrisu of the Liberal People’s Party (LPP) comes second.
Independent candidates Alhaji Mohammed Umaru Sanda and David Kannor are in the fourth and fifth positions, respectively.
