The “driver’s mate” will drive you further into the ditch – Mahama tells Ghanaian youth

John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has urged Ghanaian youth to recognize the importance of choosing a more experienced leader, cautioning that entrusting their future to an inexperienced “driver’s mate” could lead to further setbacks.

During a community engagement as part of his Greater Accra Regional campaign on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, the former President took a jab at the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, for stating during a media engagement that he has never been president and therefore Ghanaians should vote for him.

According to Mr. Mahama, Dr. Bawumia is not qualified to take the wheel because the youth of Ghana are not ready for another “trial and error” governance, especially after the hardships the current administration has plunged Ghanaians into.

“Our youth do not have the luxury of time. Because our youth are the future and they are also the present. They don’t have the luxury of trial and error, this one will come and try, dump us in the ditch and the driver’s mate will come and take it and try again and crash us even further into the ditch,” the NDC presidential hopeful said.

He explained that the youth needs an experienced leader to improve the conditions of the country, saying “We need experience, we need someone who has done it before. We need a licensed driver to take over the vehicle and move the vehicle to where God has destined”.
