Thaddeus Sory

Prominent lawyer Thaddeus Sory has vehemently denied allegations that he met privately with judges involved in the committee probing Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo.

In a strong rebuttal on Facebook, Sory called the claim a “monstrous lie,” firmly denying any such meeting took place.

His statement follows a petition by Alfred Ababio Kumi, a former NPP parliamentary aspirant, who urged President John Mahama to dissolve the five-member committee overseeing the Chief Justice’s potential removal.

Kumi alleged that Sory dined with Justices Gabriel Pwamang and Samuel Adibu-Asiedu at Santoku Restaurant on May 15, after the committee’s first hearing. He further claimed that Supreme Court Justice Yonni Kulendi was also present and that the group was overheard discussing the petition, raising concerns of bias.

But Sory rejected the claims outright:

“It is a monstrous lie. No such meeting took place. It is very easy to fact-check that. We know those who get justice through negotiation,” he wrote.

The accusations have intensified scrutiny on the committee, formed on April 22, 2025, prompting calls for transparency and impartiality in the proceedings.

As the controversy deepens, the presidency is under growing pressure to respond and safeguard the credibility of the investigative process.
