Tema Community ‘5,000’ to go down

Felix Mensah Nii Anang-La of TMA has ordered the police and military to move in to raze a notorious criminal community in Tema.

Known as Community 5,000, once a criminal enters the haphazardly created ‘community’, their shadow cannot be traced.

The criminal den stretches from behind the Tema Community One Melcom to the Ghana Commercial Bank behind the Ghana National Petroleum Company (GNPC) office.

Considering how densely the area is populated with banks and businesses, and also with bypasses linking to the Tema Port, it was only wise that the area was torn down to save people’s savings and lives.

Community 5,000 has been in existent for many years but the lack of political will to demolish all the illegal structures to ward off criminals has been deficient.
Mustering courage and defying the odds to instruct the state securities to deploy their men to assist the TMA taskforce to collapse the criminal haven, therefore, was welcoming news to businesses around the Community 5,000.

Felix Mensah Nii Anang-La gave the order at the last General Assembly meeting, when the media posed the question to him on his readiness to
demolish the community.

He said the Tema Regional Police Command and its sister security agencies would swoop the place abruptly and that would be the beginning of the end of Community 5,000.

In a bid to make Tema a high security area, the MCE said fixing of streetlights to illuminate the township is in progress, but, he was quick to remind the citizenry to prioritise and be cautious of their personal security too.
