Telcos begin 10–15% data increases to boost value for users

Telecommunication companies in Ghana have started implementing a government directive to increase data bundle volumes by 10 to 15 percent, effective Tuesday, July 1, 2025.

The decision follows public concerns about the high cost of internet services. It aims to offer better value and support broader efforts to improve digital access and affordability.

Under the new policy:

  • MTN has increased data allocations by 15%.
  • Telecel and AT have raised volumes by 10% across all data bundles.
  • Significant improvements were made to high-value packages:
  • AT’s GHC400 bundle now offers 236GB, up from 195GB.
  • Telecel’s GHC400 plan has jumped to 250GB, up from just 90GB.

MTN has reintroduced a GHC399 bundle, now offering 214GB, compared to 92.88GB previously available at GHC350.

Minister for Communications and Digitalization, Sam George, directed the National Communications Authority (NCA) to enforce compliance. He warned that telcos failing to implement the changes will face sanctions.

Leading up to the rollout, telcos notified users of the changes, aligning with the government’s mandate to make internet services more affordable.
