The National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) and Coalition of Concerned Teachers (CCT) have issued an ultimatum to government over the poor working conditions of teachers.

In a statement, the teacher unions highlighted issues including; inadequate teaching and learning materials, contact and working hours, upgrading of teachers, responsibility allowance, signing of performance contract, teachers’ promotion crisis and others.

According to the Unions, there are no textbooks, classes are overcrowded, the payment of capitation grant and administrative resources are delayed which have resulted in a school environment which is not conducive for learning.

The Unions bemoaned the “slow pace of the GES in upgrading teachers who financed themselves to acquire degrees”.
