Kofi Bentil, the Vice President of IMANI Africa, has urged for stronger backing of the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) and stressed the importance of enacting more effective laws to support its fight against corruption.

During a discussion on JoyNews’ Newsfile on March 8, Bentil pointed out that addressing corruption requires a combination of legal authority and political commitment.
He explained that much of the resistance to the OSP comes from politically influential figures who benefit from corruption, and suggested that proper legislation could prevent them from gaining power in the first place.
Bentil also recommended bolstering the OSP’s resources and ensuring its independence. Reflecting on Ghana’s anti-corruption history, he emphasized that institutional development takes time, urging a long-term approach, similar to that of older democracies.
