Germany to host Peace Conference on Sudan in April 2026

Germany will host an international aid conference for Sudan in Berlin in April to advance peace efforts given the catastrophic situation in the African country, the Foreign Office in Berlin said on Friday.

Germany will host an international aid conference for Sudan in Berlin in April to advance peace efforts given the catastrophic situation in the African country, the Foreign Office in Berlin said on Friday. The third international Sudan conference is set to take place around the anniversary of the outbreak of civil war on April 15, 2023, a spokeswoman for the Foreign Office said.

A similar conference was held in Paris in 2024 and in London last year.

“Today the world remembers a sad date, namely 1,000 days of war in Sudan,” said the spokeswoman.

She stated that far too many people continue to suffer and die from hunger and thirst in Sudan, and there are many victims of displacement and rape.

The world’s largest humanitarian crisis has already driven millions of civilians into flight and poverty, and tens of thousands to their deaths, she said.

Germany is committed to supporting the people on the ground on both the political and humanitarian front and to ending the fighting, the spokeswoman said.

With €157 million ($182.6 million), the German government was also one of the largest humanitarian donors in 2025.

UN: Sudan is largest humanitarian crisis worldwide

The United Nations classifies the civil war in Sudan, where the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia face off, as the largest humanitarian crisis in the world.

Twelve million people have been displaced by the fighting, and every second one of the approximately 50 million inhabitants of the country is threatened by hunger.

At the same time, the situation in Sudan receives significantly less international attention than, for example, the situation in the Gaza Strip.
