Stop acting as if you’re originator of FSHS concept – Apaak tells Akufo-Addo

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Builsa South constituency, Dr. Clement Apaak, has reacted to President Nana Akufo-Addo‘s recent comment about the Free Senior High School (FSHS) policy. The President made this remark while addressing participants at the Annual General Conference of the Ghana Bar Association (GBA) in Kumasi.

President Akufo-Addo stated that parents who are dissatisfied with the implementation of the FSHS policy should consider enrolling their children in private high schools.

In response, Dr. Apaak suggested that the President’s comment was made out of frustration. He believes that President Akufo-Addo was not receiving applause from many parents due to the challenges associated with the policy.

“Obviously, Akufo-Addo is frustrated because parents are not clapping for him, and he knows his party will no longer get any political benefit from both parents and students for the disappointing implementation of the FSHS policy.

“Why should parents applaud him for the shambolic implementation of an otherwise good policy? Did he expect parents to remain mute in the face of the numerous implementation challenges he has failed to fix?,” the NDC lawmaker wrote on social media.

Dr. Apaak, who is also a ranking member of Parliament’s Education Committee, further admonished the President to stop portraying himself as the sole architect of the FSHS concept.

He wrote, “In fact, Akufo-Addo should stop acting as if he is the originator of the FSHS concept and is using his personal resources to fund the programme. He is not the originator of FSHS, and neither is he using his own money to fund it.”
