Ghanaian football legend Stephen Appiah is confident that the Black Stars will qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, set to be hosted by the USA, Canada, and Mexico.

In an exclusive interview on Citi FM’s TotalEnergies Auto Show, the former Ghana captain, now a member of the Black Stars Management Committee, cited recent performances in the qualifiers as the basis for his optimism.

Ghana secured a commanding 5-0 victory over Chad and followed it up with a 3-0 win against Madagascar. In the Unity Cup friendlies held in the UK, the team also beat Trinidad and Tobago 4-0 before narrowly losing 2-1 to Nigeria.

These results have placed Ghana at the top of Group I with 15 points, three points clear of second-placed Comoros, with four matches remaining in the qualification campaign.

Appiah believes the team’s momentum and the emergence of new talent are strong indicators of success.

“For what I saw against Chad and Madagascar, and even in the Unity Cup matches against Nigeria and Trinidad, I have a lot of hope,” he said. “The new players showed their quality. We still have four games to go, but when you do the calculations, nothing tells me we won’t qualify.”

Appiah captained Ghana during its historic World Cup appearances in 2006 and 2010 and remains a respected figure in Ghanaian football.
