Statue of J.J. Rawlings, Library, museum to be unveiled in Keta

The Volta Region is set to witness a historic double event on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, as a memorial statue in honour of former President of the Republic of Ghana, Flight Lieutenant Jerry John Rawlings, will be unveiled and dedicated in Keta.

The unveiling and dedication ceremony will take place at the Parks and Gardens, Keta, beginning at 10:00 a.m., and is expected to attract traditional leaders, political figures, party executives, and members of the public from across the country.

The memorial statue is intended to honour the life, leadership, and legacy of the late former President, whose impact on Ghana’s political history and democratic development remains significant.

Later the same day, a sod-cutting ceremony will be held for the Community Library and Museum Project at Dzelukope, a project designed to preserve history, promote education, and serve as a cultural and intellectual hub for the community.

The sod-cutting ceremony is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. at the project site adjacent to Keta Beach Hotel.

Distinguished guests expected at both events include Togbi Sri III, Awɔamefia of Anlo Dukor; Togbi Agbesi Awusu II, Awadada of Anlo Dukor; the National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress, Hon. Johnson Asiedu Nketia; Member of Parliament for Klottey Korle, Hon. Dr. Zanetor Agyemang Rawlings; and the Volta Regional Minister, Hon. James Gunu.

The events underscore ongoing efforts to honour Ghana’s political heritage while investing in community development, education, and cultural preservation in the Volta Region.
