The Ministry of Sports and Recreation has paid off long-standing salary arrears owed to 11 current and former Black Stars coaches. The payments, delayed since 2020, mark a major step in resolving years of financial uncertainty for national team staff.

Sports Minister Kofi Iddie Adams led the audit and coordination efforts that resulted in the settlement.
CK Akonnor received $120,000. His assistant, David Duncan, was paid $40,000. Chris Hughton, who was dismissed after Ghana’s poor showing at the 2023 AFCON in Côte d’Ivoire (played in January 2024), received $68,904 in outstanding salaries and sign-on fees. Assistants George Boateng and Mas-Ud Didi Dramani received $20,833 and $12,500, respectively.
Current head coach Otto Addo, in his second tenure since March 2024, was owed salaries from October 2024 to March 2025. He has now received over $420,000 for that period.
Other coaching staff paid include:
- Joseph Laumann: $75,000
- John Painstil: $64,864
- Fatau Dauda (Goalkeeper Trainer): $19,459
- Francis Bugri Tampuli (Team Coordinator): $33,000
However, salaries for April and May 2025 are still outstanding.
Maxwell Konadu, who worked as assistant to Milovan Rajevac between September 2021 and January 2022, also received $30,000.
Although the Ghana Football Association (GFA) hired the coaches, the government is responsible for their pay. That obligation had remained unmet for years, until now.
This payout ends years of uncertainty and restores confidence in Ghana’s commitment to its national football staff. It sets a precedent for handling such obligations promptly, transparently, and with respect for professional contracts.
