Ministry of Youth and Sports (MOYS) has granted approval for football spectators to return to the various league centres to watch both domestic and international competitions.
The decision comes after the Ghana Football Association, The National Covid-19 Task Force, and the Ministry of Sports reached an agreement for fans to return to the various stadia for both local and international sporting events.
A statement issued on Friday, April 16, 2021 by the Public Relations Officer, Kenneth Annang to officially lift the restriction revealed that clubs are to allow only 25 percent of fans.
“The Ministry of Youth and Sports is delighted to announce that with immediate effect, approval is granted for football fans (25%) to return to the various League centers to watch both domestic and international competitions subject to observing all the national COVID-19 protocols and the GFA Matchday COVID-19 protocols”.
The Ghana Football Association has been tasked to ensure that the directive is strictly observe, with all COVID-19 protocols imposed.
“As a result the Ghana Football Association has been directed to put in place mechanisms to ensure that games are played in a safe environment to ensure the safety of spectators,”.
“The GFA is also to ensure that the various COVID-19 Protocols including the washing of hands, wearing of face masks and observing of social distancing are strictly adhered to and sanctions given to defaulting clubs and participants in accordance with the provisions of the GFA Matchday COVID-19 Protocols”, the statement read.
According to the ministry, GFA or its authorized distributors (if any) sells and issues tickets for matches at the Ground only upon the following Conditions of Issue and by purchasing, holding or using a Match Ticket or entering the Ground, any person who has applied for, bought, accepted or holds a Match Ticket shall be deemed to have accepted these Conditions of Issue”.
Football games had been played behind closed doors due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 in March 2020.
Fans were expectant and excited when government eased restrictions on football activities to allowed them troop in various venues to watch their teams compete in the Ghana Premier League, Division One League, et al but had to revert to games being played behind closed doors in February this year due to the rise in coronavirus cases in the country.
