Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has unveiled a new scholarship program for Members of Parliament (MPs) and Parliamentary staff. The initiative, dubbed the Speaker’s Scholarship for Parliamentarians and Parliamentary Staff, is sponsored by NiBS University.
Addressing the House on June 27, the Speaker said NiBS University introduced the scholarship to honour his leadership and commitment to Ghana’s democratic and institutional development. The university also praised his role in promoting academic advancement within the public sector.
The scholarship package includes several graduate and doctoral programs with significant monetary value:
- PhD in Business Administration – $7,599
- Doctor of Business Leadership – $6,999
- Doctor of Public Sector Innovation and Leadership – $5,599
- Master’s programs – $1,399
According to Speaker Bagbin, these academic opportunities are designed to promote lifelong learning among MPs and parliamentary staff. He believes the programs will enhance policy research, strengthen legislative analysis, and close the gap between academia and governance.
He encouraged all eligible individuals within the Parliamentary Service to take full advantage of the scholarships. “These degrees are not just certificates,” he stated, “they offer innovative leadership tools that will help Parliament meet the expectations of Ghanaians.”
Members from both sides of the House praised the Speaker for securing this opportunity, commending his efforts to equip Parliament with skills necessary for effective leadership and national development.
