Shatta Wale slams gov’t for ignoring content creators’ value

Ghanaian dancehall star Shatta Wale has taken aim at the government and stakeholders in the creative arts sector, accusing them of failing to understand or appreciate the significance of content creation.

In a candid post on X dated May 3, the “On God” hitmaker expressed frustration over the persistent disregard for content producers by institutions meant to uplift the creative industry.

“I don’t think the creative arts industry in Ghana and even the government truly understands who content creators are,” he wrote.

Shatta Wale described content creation as more than a casual pursuit, calling it a full-time career, a business, and a lifeline for many. He highlighted how creators work tirelessly, often without support, to build platforms, invest in equipment, and form teams.

“These individuals have chosen this path, sacrificing their time, investing in equipment, building teams, and creating platforms from scratch. It’s not just a hustle; it’s a serious business,” he noted.

He emphasized the strong link between entertainment and content creation, stressing that both must be nurtured together for the industry to thrive.

“We need to understand that entertainment and content creation go hand in hand. With the right support, these platforms can grow and contribute massively to the industry,” he explained.

Shatta Wale also debunked the notion that YouTubers and digital creators earn money effortlessly, pointing out the discipline and strategy required for success.

“Please don’t say they’re ‘making money from YouTube’ like it’s some overnight success. The education and discipline required to build on YouTube is far deeper than what you’ve been told. It’s not easy, my guy,” he added.

To help shift perceptions, he revealed plans to spotlight hardworking content creators through a series of personal interviews aimed at giving them the recognition they deserve.
