The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Shai-Osudoku, Hon. Ignatius Godfred Dordoe, paid a working visit to the Akuse Prisons, where he engaged with officers and interacted with inmates of the Male Prison facility.
The male prison currently houses 261 inmates and operates under the supervision of CSP Issufi Abdullah, the second-in-command.
The female prison has a population of 26, headed by ADP Beatrice Adjei Asiedu (Mrs.), the Officer-in-Charge.
During the visit, Hon. Dordoe engaged the male inmates, encouraging them to remain hopeful and focus on self-reformation.
He urged the inmates to take advantage of the correctional programs available to equip them with skills and renewed purpose for a successful reintegration into society.
Hon. Dordoe commended the officers for their unwavering dedication to reforming and mentoring inmates despite operational challenges.
He reaffirmed the government’s optimism towards the provision of infrastructure for the Ghana Prison Service, and also pledged to address accommodation issues for the inmates.
Hon. Dordoe donated Ten Thousand Ghana Cedis (GHs 10,000) towards the ongoing Water Closet (WC) project to enhance sanitation within the facility and underscored his commitment to collaborating with the Ghana Prisons Service and relevant stakeholders to strengthen correctional services.
