The Embassy of Ghana in the United States has confirmed the arrest and detention of Mrs. Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu, a Ghanaian national, by United States authorities.
According to an official statement issued by the Ghanaian Embassy in Washington, Mrs. Tamakloe-Attionu is currently being held at the Nevada Southern Detention Center in Pahrump, Nevada. The facility is located at 2190 East Mesquite Avenue.
The Embassy stated that Mrs. Tamakloe-Attionu was arrested by the U.S. Marshals Service on January 6 and has remained in custody since then.
Her arrest follows an extradition request submitted to U.S. authorities in July 2024, the statement said.
U.S. Marshals reportedly acted on the request and placed Mrs.
Tamakloe-Attionu in detention pending court proceedings, where she is expected to appear to address the extradition matter.
The statement was signed by Victor Emmanuel Smith, Ghana’s Ambassador to the United States, and was addressed to media organizations for public dissemination.
No further details regarding the charges, court date, or timeline for extradition proceedings were provided. The Embassy indicated that it would offer additional updates as the legal process unfolds.
Sedina is the former Chief Executive Officer of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC) was convicted in absentia by the former NPP government in April 2024 for causing financial loss to the state.
