Caterers under the Ghana School Feeding Programme report delays in the payment of arrears, with outstanding amounts from the previous academic term yet to be cleared.
The issue was highlighted in a social media post by Abena Serwaah Mankosa, who alleged that five weeks into the new school term, caterers engaged under the programme have not been paid their outstanding arrears, which she indicated is affecting their ability to pre-finance meals for beneficiaries this term.
According to the post, the situation is causing operational difficulties for caterers who depend on timely payments to procure food items and sustain the feeding programme. The statement further described the development as unfortunate, suggesting that the current administration is working to address the challenge.
The Ghana School Feeding Programme remains a key government social intervention designed to improve school enrolment, attendance, and nutrition among pupils in public basic schools across the country. However, payment delays to caterers have been a recurring concern over the years, often affecting the smooth implementation of the programme.
As discussions around the matter continue, stakeholders are expected to engage relevant authorities to ensure prompt resolution of the arrears and sustain the effectiveness of the programme, which supports thousands of school children nationwide.
