Ketu North MP Edem Agbana has thrown his full support behind the Ghana Scholarships Authority Bill, describing it as a game-changer in restoring trust and transparency in scholarship administration.

In a post on Facebook, Mr. Agbana said the bill, currently before Parliament, is designed to eliminate political favoritism, nepotism, and corruption that have plagued Ghana’s scholarship programmes for years.

“As a member of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Education, I have reviewed every clause of the draft bill,” he wrote. “Once passed, this legislation will end political patronage in the allocation of scholarships.”

The lawmaker pointed out that public confidence in the scholarship system has waned due to widespread allegations of biased selections and opaque processes.

According to him, the proposed bill introduces clear accountability structures to ensure that awards are based strictly on merit and genuine need, not political loyalty.

“This is not just a legal reform. It is a moral commitment to give every Ghanaian student a fair chance, regardless of background or party affiliation,” Mr. Agbana emphasized.

As the bill moves forward for debate, he has called on fellow MPs to prioritize national interest over partisanship and endorse the reform.
