Minister for Roads and Highways, Governs Kwame Agbodza, says nearly all road projects across Ghana have stalled due to overwhelming debt, including the critical Ofankor-Nsawam highway.

Responding to pressure from the Concerned Drivers Association of Ghana (C-DAG), Agbodza blamed the previous administration for awarding contracts without securing funds, creating a financial backlog that has paralyzed ongoing infrastructure efforts.

“Almost all road projects are currently stalled due to debt and the unsustainable practice of awarding contracts without regard for available funds,” he stated in a brief release.

The Ofankor-Nsawam road, which includes the Amasaman-Nsawam stretch, has become a major concern for drivers and commuters. In a strongly worded statement, C-DAG issued a four-day ultimatum to the Ministry to resume work or face a protest.

“The road is barely motorable, damaging our vehicles, risking lives, and disrupting our operations,” the group said. “This is not a threat but a desperate plea.”

They called on media, traditional leaders, and the public to join in demanding urgent government action.

In response, Agbodza said the Ministry is collaborating with the Ministry of Finance to raise funds to settle debts and bring contractors back to the site. He assured that efforts are underway to prioritize critical projects like the Ofankor-Nsawam road as part of a broader recovery plan.
