Rising Through Challenges: The LESEC Story

Leklebi Senior High School (LESEC) is a public, mixed-gender secondary school located in the serene town of Leklebi-Duga in the Afadzato South District of the Volta Region. The school traces its beginnings in the mid196os, when it was established by the late Alexander Kumah as a community-driven initiative aimed at, providing accessible secondary education to the youth of Leklebi and its surrounding communities.

Officially opened on 13th October 1967 as a private community secondary school, LESEC quickly became a beacon of hope for families who believed in education as the pathway to opportunity. On 12th October 1977, the school was absorbed into the public education system, ushering in a new era of growth, structure, and expanded academic programs.

Over the years, Leklebi Senior High School has continued to grow both in population and in academic offerings. LESEC operates as a single-track institution known for its calm environment and steady academic discipline.

The school offers five major programs: General Arts, General Science, Agriculture, Home Economics, and Visual Arts. These programs cater to a wide range of student interests and talents, ensuring that LESEC remains an inclusive and diverse learning community. One of the school’s landmarks, its assembly hall named after the late Paramount Chief of Leklebi Duga Traditional Area, Togbui Agboka VI, serves as a multipurpose facility for gatherings.

​Despite its proud history and achievements, LESEC continues to face a number of pressing challenges that affect teaching, learning, and student life. Inadequate furniture remains a major issue, with some classrooms lacking the necessary desks and chairs to comfortably accommodate students. During the rainy season, parts of the school compound and some classrooms experience flooding, disrupting academic activities. Access to water is also a challenge, as students and staff often depend on streams or must fetch water from nearby towns.
Additionally, the school grapples with an unreliable lighting system that affects night-time learning and dormitory convenience. Staffing gaps have also made it necessary to rely on part-time teachers, further stretching the school’s resources.

Yet, in the midst of these challenges, the spirit of resilience at Leklebi Senior High School continues to shine. The determination of the students, the commitment of the staff, and the support of the surrounding community keeps the institution moving forward.
