A recent incident at the Emergency Department of the Greater Accra Regional Hospital (Ridge Hospital), captured in a viral social media video, has sparked widespread condemnation and a ‘disciplinary’ call from Elikplim Agbemava Lorlormava, a renowned legal practitioner and staunch member of the ruling NDC.
The incident involved relatives of an accident victim clashing with medical staff, escalating into verbal aggression and the alleged assault of a nurse.
According to a statement signed by Ms. Juliana Haruna, Head of Public Relations at Ridge Hospital, the Emergency Department is one of the busiest in the country.
“At the time of the incident, clinicians were actively attending to other emergencies when relatives and friends of the accident victims invaded the emergency triage. Their overwhelming presence disrupted the smooth delivery of care, caused unnecessary tension, and even threatened the safety of our clinicians. In the process, one of our dedicated nurses was assaulted,” Ms. Haruna explained.
In response to the incident, Mr. Agbemava has made a striking statement, calling for drastic measures to address discipline within the hospital.
“Transfer every medical staff at Ridge Hospital to restore discipline,” he asserted.
Meanwhile, Ghanaians from all walks of life are calling for the arrest and prosecution of the lead perpetrator of the alleged assault, Raph Saint Williams, who has since denied any wrongdoing.
