Rev. Fordjour invites security agencies to brief parliament on gold busts and suspicious flights

Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, the Ranking Member of Parliament’s Defence and Interior Committee, has formally invited the National Security, National Intelligence Bureau (NIB), Police CID, and the Narcotics Control Commission to brief the committee on several significant ongoing investigations.

His invitation, extended in a letter dated April 2, 2025, seeks to gain clarity on critical security matters affecting the nation. The agencies are scheduled to appear before the committee on April 7, 2025, to provide updates.

Fordjour’s request comes amid heightened concerns over national security, particularly regarding large-scale criminal activities. Among the issues he wants addressed are the gold and cash bust at Sapeiman on February 9, 2025, and two major cocaine busts that occurred in March, one involving drugs valued at $350 million and another worth $120 million.

Additionally, Fordjour has called for explanations on two suspicious flights, AirMed Flight N823AM and Covok Air Antonov AN-128, which recently landed at Kotoka International Airport.

The invitation to the security agencies follows a directive from the President, who on April 1, 2025, called for collaboration among these agencies to investigate allegations of drug trafficking.

Fordjour’s move is part of his efforts to ensure that Parliament is fully informed on the progress of these investigations and that the public is kept up to date on security issues.

By holding the briefing, Fordjour aims to ensure transparency and accountability from the involved security agencies, especially in light of the significant financial and security implications of the ongoing investigations.
