Resign over your promise to end galamsey Mahama chases Akufo-Addo

Former President John Mahama has called on His Excellency President NanaAkufo-Addo to resign over his promise to end illegal mining popularly known as galamsey.

President John Dramani Mahama called on His Excellency Nana Akuffo Addo to resign in an interview today 19th October 2020 on Adom T.V over a promise made by president Nana Akuffo Addo to end galamsey even if it will cost him the presidency.

Speaking in the interview Mahama said president Nana Akuffo Addo’s ‘Operation Vanguard’ has been one of the poorest response to illegal mining in the country.
In our time, we also used the same approach but we realised it didn’t work as intended, so that is not the right way to do it. You cannot use force of arms to combat illegal mining.
In 2017 upon assumption of office president Nana Akuffo Addo form this group (Operation Vanguard) to combat the menace of illegal small scale mining.

Then he added “Akufo-Addo has failed when it comes to the fight against galamsey and so if he has put his tenure on the line then he probably shouldn’t be running for the next presidency, he should be resigning now”, he has failed .

President Mahama noted again that the colour of our water is now deep brown, water bodies are still being heavily polluted, including lands and other natural resources through the activities of galamsey. He said fighting galamsey required good policies and ensuring their enforced “So you need to bring in some incentives and bring better supervision to the sector,” he stressed.

However president Nana Akuffo Addo in his State of Nation Address praised his government for the contribution towards ending galamsey but noted that there more work to be done though he reminded mute about putting his presidency on the line.
